Your transparency will not survive
This is the one thing to know before you convert, because it cannot be undone afterwards.
AVIF can store an alpha channel, which is a transparency value attached to every pixel. JPG has nowhere to put one. So when the image is re-encoded, every transparent pixel has to become some actual colour, and that colour is white.
A logo with a see-through background comes out sitting on a white rectangle. Drop it onto a dark page afterwards and the box is obvious. Nothing in the JPG file remembers which pixels used to be clear, so no editor can restore it later.
Keep the original AVIF file. Convert a copy, and only when the destination genuinely cannot read AVIF.
What is AVIF?
AVIF is a next-generation format with outstanding compression, often smaller than WebP, but support is still rolling out, so many apps and devices can’t open it yet.
What is JPG?
JPG (also written JPEG) is the world’s most common photo format. It uses lossy compression to make photographs very small, but it can’t store transparency and re-saving repeatedly slowly degrades quality.

GIF transparency is the odd one out. A pixel is either fully visible or fully invisible, with nothing in between, which is why GIF logos often show jagged edges against a background they were not designed for. PNG and WebP both store 256 levels of transparency instead, so their edges blend properly.
